Swim the Arctic Circle Swimming Competition in the Tornio River in Lapland

Come in July to cross the border in a unique open water competition on the Tornio River. The event offers the chance to swim across a national border, the Arctic Circle and a time zone. You are invited to test your own limits.

The swimming competition has taken place since 2011, and it is operated in the open waters of the Tornio River. The start of the Swim the Arctic Circle event is July 13, 2024 at 23.05 Swedish time (July 14, 2022 at 00.05 Finnish time). The challenge includes the temperature of the natural water, the weather and the flow of the river.

The swimming distances in the competition are marked downstream. The starting point is north of the Arctic Circle, and the goal is south of the Circle. There are two races, one for men and one for women. There are 2000m & 3000m routes. The 3000m route is a midnight swim from Finland to Sweden across the Tornio / Torne River.
